The Myths of the Civil War
Students are frustrated with the simple stories they got about the civil war and slavery in high school. They recognize that the history is a lot more complicated than they thought, and they feel deprived of it. My students across the board have a greater sense of pride in the nation,. There's a great admiration and respect, but also frustration, for the ways that reconstruction policies weren't honored.
