Socrates famously lamented that writing was going to make us stupid because it would eliminate the need to remember things. We've never had in our culture, in our history, as a species, as much access to information as we do now. And I think that if we are constantly afraid of our future, it prevents us from being able to take advantage of the opportunities that come along with the future.
