Introduction
Jeff sebe is the author of Saving Animals, saving ourselves. He presents a thought experiment to show why we should care about animals and their welfare. Sebe says there are two ways you can act in order to save an animal from harm. The more consequentialist approach would see it as your duty to prevent something very bad from happening without sacrificing anything comparably significant. More non-consequentialists might say that if this was not foreseeable or expected, then perhaps one shouldn't intervene at all.
