Sticky Notes: The Classical Music Podcast

CHAPTER

Music Review - The Bee Symphony by Leonard Bernstein

Maller was forced out of the vienna court opera in 19 o seven. In that same year, he lost his daughter at the age of just four to scarlet fever. He was diagnosed with a heart defect that would end up leading to his death in 19 11. This symphony is often described as being about maller's own death but this ignores the fact that maller was actually in pretty decent health when he wrote the symphony in 19 o nine. The music is now almost entirely in the wind parts, as they play practically independently of each other,. as if they ere all vibrating and meditating on their own frequencies.
