The groundwork of the internet was laid in the sixties and seventies. It continued to steadily thump towards becoming what it exploded as you know, like with net cape in the mid nineties. But meantime, all the computer companies were building out all their networking stuff as proprietarily as possible. Noin nothing worked with each other. Even ethernet was proprietary, and there was a token ring. And yet, meanwhile, the internet sort of evolving at the same time on the side.
