The Lost Silmaril

Tolkien never gave us an origin story of how this or this unusual or came to be, right? Mithril did not originate. In the Misty Mountains. It was the only source in Middle Earth until they find out you can find it on Numenor. The other thing that makes it totally implausible is that there's a Silmaril stuck in the tree. I don't think Tolkien ever put those two things together and said, here's a good thing that came out of that. And then they come up with this strange idea of a Celebrimbor talking about how it would saturate every elf in the light of the fallar. Oh, my goodness. We sure do
