There's a story by a biologist who is studying the size of marlin caught in florida over the last, well, since photographic evidence. The thing to remember is that our species has been thro cycles like this over and over and over again. Once you get a civilization, you've got to bomda cycle. That's it seems to be hard wired into the structure of civilizations. They go down the long descent, one to 300 years, until, you know, a dark age comes, and then somebody picks up the pieces.
