The Pursuit of Choice
The concept of choice, I think, is a very clever trick of capitalism to fool us into the consumerism and satisfaction that we live in. The independence doesn't mean only from something, but to do something. Our choices in life, the possibilities to do things, are more and more restricted. There are millions of young people out there who couldn't see their friends, couldn't do the experience that you usually have as an adolescence,. And now they feel sad and anxious and so on. So what do we do? We say they have a mental health problem. That's our individualism.
