I don't think people realize how much better Rashford is now than he was then. And I think if you had the Rashford now with Marcial of then, you'd have something, but you did not. So what you have is functionally an a Premier League average attack plus Marcial and that on pure quality just could not get it done. The team is still super vulnerable in counter attacking situations because the press was still hyper aggressive  and lacked conservatism conservatism in key moments.
