The first 14 days of the menstrual ovulatory cycle is referred to as the follicular phase. Luteinizing hormone and follicle stimulating hormone travel to the ovary. FSH has triggered the departure of a subset of these follicles that contain immature eggs. And in doing so, it's triggering the maturation of those eggs. The egg then starts to form its own what we call an involution around 23 pairs of chromosomes.
