The Distaste of the Observationalist

There's a fundamental tension here, which I'm well aware of. And so if you have big data sets and good experiments, you can try to bridge between those using a well-articulated computational theory. That's of course the end goal for me, but it takes time to get there. So my main teaching contribution at Stanford is to teach an experimental methods course where I hammer home these issues about causal inference and type experimental control and construct validity.
