Ridgway and the Ripper Murders
Jean Jordan's body was found with stab wounds and a hammer blow to the head. There were no signs of sexual assault, so Ridgway believed she had been killed for her £5 note. The killer may have tried to decapitate Jean if he couldn't find the note. A fake leather handbag was missing from the crime scene at the time. Police printed notices about the murder asking people to be on the lookout for it. On Saturday 15th October, a man found the handbag 50 meters away from where Jean's body was discovered. This is when Ridgway learned that West Yorkshire Police had linked Jean’s murder with the Ripper murders. He kept this secret
