A lot of it had to do with the feeling that the liberal world order had disrupted the ethnic hegemony of the older working class. There's a big gender element to this because as we switch from a manufacturing industrial economy to a knowledge economy, women have a much larger role in that. And so they've been graduating from universities at much higher rates than men. They've been displacing men in the workplace. It's also true not just in the United States and in Europe but everywhere.
