The Primary Uses of Solvent in Oil Painting

The primary use of a solvent in oil painting is thinning your paint from the tube. So then is there a risk at adding too much solvent to thin an oil? That's a really good question. There is a degree to which you shouldn't add any more solvent I would say ideally if you are using something like Gamsole or another equivalent solvent for thinning your Paint. Using too much solvent means that you are diluting and dissolving the oil binder which is used to formulate your oil color.
