Savage's Story
In 1932, Augusta Savage launches the Savage Studio Arts and Crafts program. Over time, she also founded the Gallery for Contemporary Negro Art. She was one of only four women commissioned to create something for the 1939 World's Fair in New York. In a sea of white sculptures, Savage's solitary black monument made the statement she intended.
