Kublai is the grandson of jinghis khan, who united the tribes of mongolia. A teen age marco polo is discovering that the world is much bigger than he ever thought possible. He describes the moslems he encounters as having a brutish law and living like beasts in all things. After a brief but nasty civil war with his younger ther, kublai ascends to the throne of the mongol empire at the age of forty five. Marco polo becomes infatuated with the mongols.
