The Problem With Nationalism

Adolf Hitler adopted the word nationalism as his description of his biological race-based world-dominating imperialism. The left is constantly jumping at opportunities to make words that conservatives use to describe their positions illegitimate, he says. But we do have to take a position on whether we believe that the independence of nations,. the sovereignty of nations, their right to chart their own course, is a value our society approves of. And if we do approve of national independence as a way of ordering the political world, then we need a word for it and there is no other word.
