The Great Famine in Ireland
In 18 forty seven, the famine in ireland killed over 12 percent of its pre-famine population. Evictions also were common place as workhouses s massively overcrowded. By 18 61, the irish population stood at five point seven million people, nearly three million below what it had been just a 175 years earlier. Next week we look at how these events specifically shaped irish society and so influence later.
