The Duality of Mothering

I was interested in this dual piece around the liberation that women had gained through that concept of self which was more than in any other historical period or culture in the modern West. I could see that inevitably once women became wives and mothers inducted them into a kind of sexual contract that meant they were not simply abstract individuals in the same way as men. An unmodified version of liberal freedom doesn't actually work for women for all the reasons that payments theory invokes but I think that's the foundation on which we then transform the institution. Women are still doing the majority of childcare and they're still compromising their careers and earning capacity.
