Three dimensional rotations were originally invented because of a kind of mathematical set up. A list of numbers, like three numbers, could represent a point in three-dimensional space. How do you make that transformation? There's a trick that can be represented by a matrix. And what's can t happen is that there's a mathematical operation that you do where you take that three by three matrix and apply it to this vector of length three.
