Many argue that the most effective form of both community and transformation in the US is neither the church nor the therapist, it's alcoholics anonymous. AA started as a discipleship program in Ohio because there wasn't enough vulnerability and those other great things. Our greatest intimacy comes from our deepest vulnerability but that is scary.
