Cortez's First Battle in Mexico
Cortez and his men stopped off at a large mayan town named pontochan, which sat at the mouth of a river to day known as the rio grialva. The locals had perhaps heard worrying rumors about the foreigners sneaking around their shores in their large ships. They made an attempt to drive the spanish away by force. What followed was a brief but bloody clash, cortez's first battle in mexico. Although there were some experienced fighters among his troop,. cortez's men, for the most part, were not professional soldiers, and neither were they particularly well trained.
