Nirvana's Nevermind was certified gold and platinum in November 1991. Soundgarden's Bad Motorfinger peaked at number 39 on the Billboard 200, which made it the most successful Soundgarden album so far. After the release of 1989's Louder Than Love, Soundgarden, founding bassist Hiro Yamamoto left the band.
