The Importance of Explanation in Screenwriting

A scene has to do so much. I urge them as new writers to simplify it. It's one of the great lessons of outlines not not outlines for consumption by producers, but outlines working. If you wanted to find grace notes in a scene, you you, they have to do something other than be graceful. They have to reveal something about about a character. The problems we had with 30 something when they tried to syndicate it is that our episodes are 49 minutes long. We'll talk about what that means.
