The FAA's Understaffed Air Traffic Control System
16 of 17 facilities interviewed by the DOT investigators said that their facilities were not adequately staffed. The New York Tracon, with only 54% of the staff it needs, is authorized to have 30 supervisors, but it has only eight. When there aren't enough controllers, air traffic gets reduced. That leads to delays in cancellations.
