Twis's Marriage to a Polish Abyss

Twis's wife was born into a Belgian peasant family. Her name was Farrell de Van Lienzel. A trial in 1872 in which another man, who's prominent in the book as you know, accused her of being a prostitute. I wasn't prepared to believe his accusation as the basis for saying that she claimed to have been the daughter of Dutch, Dutch nobleman raised in Poland. There was a whole story conducted around who she really was.
