Are We Going to Root and Deploy Military Technologies?

Inventors like Nikola Tesla or whatever previously in history who have been inventing things and exploring new technologies. But generally those people were patrons of some large military power or state that would use them, for example. And maybe some of the stuff happening with corporations was going on prior to 1870, but it was mostly centered around specifically like trade and seafaring. It's only around 1870 that we kind of get this new setup where corporations realize that they can.
