To stare is a verb to do with looking, there are many ways of looking in English. To stare is to look at something in a very fixed way because it's strange or because it fascinates you. Another common use of gaze is to gaze into the eyes of the person you love. These days I tend to gaze through Baker's windows at chocolate cakes thinking, mmm, gazing at that.
