I think part of philosophical work has always been pushing ideas to paradoxical extremes, conclusions which perhaps no one could believe. The professionalization of the subject in recent decades and the constant imperative to add lines to your CV means there's more philosophy being produced now that functions as a kind of clickbait where it's like here's a patently unbelievable claim but now I'm going to show you what a super clever defense of it looks like.
