The Mechanism of Correction of Valuation

Inflation killed the nifty 50 stocks of the 1970s. Is it rates or is it long term rates that affects the discount rate? And my follow up question would be, what if discount rates stay low? If yields don't go up tremendously, it might not be as explosive of a reversal over the longer term. But you can still have a growth to value rotation in a more inflation environment.
