Interpreting the Command to Sell Possessions
This chapter discusses different interpretations of a biblical passage and St. Basil's perspective on the matter. St. Clement and other early fathers viewed the passage metaphorically as a command to detach oneself from worldly goods and live a life in Christ. However, with the rise of monasticism, a literal interpretation emerged, at least for monks.
