How Do We Keep People From Feeling Overly Manipulated When They Don't Get the Answer That They Want?
There are unanswered questions that the character has, and there are also unanswered question that the reader has. Sometimes you'll have a situation where the character knows an answer, and it's my traumatic piece of backstory, and the reader doesn't know the answer. So that's a way that you can ratchet the tension up by withholding something from the reader,. as long as the reader doesn’t feel overtly manipulated.
