How to Put Your House in Order

There's a similar expression in American English that speaks about thinking. A famous comedian Stephen Wright said if it's a penny for your thoughts and you put in your two cents worth then somebody somewhere is making a penny. The next one we've got is to put your house in order or you can also say to get your home in order. Can you think of another example to clarify?
