The Origins of Fruit Fly Genes
Tim Tully's first scientific achievement was developing a Pavlovian learning task for fruit flies. He found all these genes and they're all to do with memory and learning. But only one is well known and that's biecra, which means white. We've already established that the gene white has been taken. That was the first gene, so you can't use that. So he went to Pavlov's home. He managed to get someone to show him round the place where Pavlov used to live. They showed him old photo books of pictures of Pavlov's dogs with all the dog names that weren't common knowledge at all. Some are called Jerkett and Jack
