Is the Product Manager a Product Manager?

The product manger is someone who can help people understand each other better and work together in a better way. The word hypothesis scares the shit out of people, so i'm really curious. Do you think thats more design than tutter be intimated by? Or does it stretch out into the organization as well? No, i would think probably for a lot of people, that's a slightly academica sounding term.
