Genifer's 96 different calls with different consequences seems to indicate that it is a form of what we are doing with language. But on being a kiljoy, one can see it is mechanistic. And rather a communication between one quai self and another, it is mechanism. I don't think any of us would be inclined to ascribe to bees the kind of higher order that informs are absolute everyday life in inhuman beings.
