When temperature increases, the drying power of the air increases expedientially. This tresses plants to lose water through their leaves and branchs die. Past a certain threshold, they might actually start to loose leaves,. And eventually the whole individuals may die. The main driver was the temperature, but mostly the increasing atmospheric water stress.
