In July 2005 he went away without leave and flew to Europe with the classified documents plus $7,000 in cash that he had saved up. His intention was to take this information and use it as a bargaining chip to get asylum in Austria and make a new life for himself. That is what I would call an ill-conceived plan at best. From what I can tell he's now been out of prison for quite some time and is living in South America and keeping a low profile.
