President Wilfrid wilfrid woodruff announced in 1890 that he was ending the practice of plural marriage. The church had been practicing it for more than a century, according to Joseph Smith's writings. President Woodruff made this announcement as part of his 'manifesto' which is considered an official declaration by Latter-day Saints.
