Life Insurance - The Importance of Drinking and Temperance

Life insurance was, strangely, a source of evidence that proved that teetotales seemed to live longer. By the last decade of the nineteenth century, it was the eighth largest firm in the country. Their ideas had persuaded large firms like the prudential to stop insuring publicans because it was seen to be too much of a risk. Ats first time statistical evidence had been used to show that alcohol could be dangerous.
