The key word in the entire novel for me is remorse. The whole of the novel feels this intense debilitating sense of remorse at what he has created. At the very end of the novel we learn for the first time that the creature himself feels remorse at the murders that he's committed. So I think it's a very interesting complex replaying of themes of guilt in what feels to me like a godless framework.
