Exercise in the brain is one of my pet topics as well. I researched this quite extensively because I too am a runner and if I miss a few days of running, I feel the impacts on my mood. There is really good sound evidence that aerobic exercise has two major impacts: It impacts your mood; people will report less depressive symptomatology. And it also prevents against dementias.
