The Velvet Underground and Andy Warhol

The Velvet Underground first appeared in 1966 at a psychiatrist's convention. Andy Warhol had been asked to give an after dinner speech, and offered instead to show some of his films. The group were performing their songs about BDSM and heroine, in front of the shocked audience. On this became the basis of a multimedia happening,. first titled Andy Warhol's Up tight, then later renamed first the erupting plastic inevitable, and then the exploding plastic inevitable. Several of Warhol's films were projected simultaneously, including onto the performers.
