Police considered the possibility that the killer wasn't a railroad employee at all, but had been wearing a fake or stolen uniform. One man spotted a colleague leaving work in the middle of his shift by jumping over a fence and said he was off to see a woman. He returned some time later without any of his superiors noticing his absence. Despite having worked at the company for a long time, ulgezorf wasn't close to his colleagues. Many didn't even know his name.
