Conservatism Isn't Just About Libertarianism
i think there's a prudential test that you kind of have to apply in the moment. The second you get rid of this dogmatic opposition to the idea that the government can or should, and those are di things, then as a policy matter, you're really no different than left wingers who believe that kind of stuff. i keep thinking about irving crystal used to argue that he believed in a conservatism that was anti left, but he never had much patience for the anti state art. R at least he was wrong when he put it in those terms. And so again, don't think that conservatism is just about libertarianism.
