I think there's a baseline of distrust of scientific experts in the United States. It bears the marks of this long tradition of argumentation about scientists, right? Having a fundamentally skewed and dangerous sense of who we are as human beings. We need to talk about specific things going on, the government telling you what to put in your body, right? That's a very fraught process,. But it doesn't really get much of a handle on it by making these huge generalizations.
