Sanctions and Global Capitalist Imperialism
As global capitalist imperialism consolidated, particularl in the 19 nineties, sanctions have essentially become one of the key sources of imperial violence. Sanctions weaponize not interdependence, as some commentators have said, but deferonciated market dependency or unequal relations of production and exchange. At the political or ideological level, also, sanctions mobilize basically the full artillary of ideas that do sustain a global capitalist imperialism. One such idea is e the idea that there is a clear distinction between war and peace, right? And that only war is violent.
