There's been a terrible confusion in the academy ubout actually defining what a state is. Even scholars who are trained in those fields fall into the trap of teleology. The world to day is covered from end to end with mostly capitalist nation states. Inevitably, it's a bit of a fool's erum, especially when you start actually comparing societies and political systems like ancient mesopotamia or egypt.
