The shortest path is Important, Not the Average
Theories of the universe are based on an 'intrinsic' property. The shortest path needs you to identify when the universe is basi got a memory, not an average. When i find those features, i know the universe has had a coherent memory and is basically alive. And so that gives you the lower bound. Of course, there's going to be other parts. We can have other parts, but it's just the minimum.
