Introduction
Slicko the Jumping Squirrel, Chapter 7. Slicko has been getting nuts to store away so that she will not run out during the time she needs to be at her aunts. When she sees a pile of nuts in the clearing, she thinks that this is her lucky day. She heads out to pick them up after looking around to make sure there is no danger. But when she hears a snap and feels something on her leg, she realizes that she should have been more careful. The little squirrel lay quite still for a moment. Her heart beat very fast, and she thought of the many dangers which her father and mother had told her might happen to little squirrels.
